Rookie Lifeguards

The Rookie Programme has been designed to help Junior Surf members and young people prepare to become Surf Lifeguards. The Rookie Programme aims to promote "practical lifeguarding" to younger members and develop strong ties between senior and junior members as a result of involvement. This program is for 13-year-olds who may have an interest in completing their Surf Lifeguard Award upon turning 14.

Rookies wear a blue and white uniform and spend time on patrols with qualified lifeguards. Rookies need a hi-vis and fins.

Rookies and trainees need fins! Please ensure you have purchased fins before you come to Pauanui as they are difficult to purchase once at the beach (the club are not selling them this year). Popular brands lifeguards use are Red Backs, DaFin or Viper. Purchase them to fit - if you buy large (to grow into) they will be lost in the surf!
