SurfSports offers a prime training ground for the physical
and psychological demands of saving lives in the surf, It
is an opportunity for lifeguards to practice, refine and demostrate
their prowess in the many different physical areas of surf
life saving - with all events being based on practical aspects
of lifesaving.
Starting at JuniorSurf level members,
as young as seven get to enjoy the fun and excitement of pitting
themselves against each other, and members of other clubs.
Regardless of ability or interest, events range from Club
based competitions to District and National U14 Championships.
Our JuniorSurf progamme organises an annual carnival competition
against members of the Hotwater Beach and Tairua Surf Life
Saving Clubs.
Our qualified lifeguards can participate
in a range of District, Regional or National SurfEvents, which
help build their peak performance for the New Zealand Championships
held in March. Events span the range of rescue skills and
test competitors’ strength, fitness and agility in swimming,
running, paddling a SurfSki, board or canoe, rowing a surfboat.
Racing Inflatable Rescue Boats is an increasingly popular
part of our sport.
