Allenie Smith - Paunaui Club Captain presents Dave Boersen with his service award on behalf of Surf Lifesaving Bay of Plenty |
Refreshers
Lifeguards are required to complete a refresher at the beginning of each season to ensure they are up with the play. Pauanui Lifeguards will be completing most portions of the refresher at our Swimming training on Thursday 27th November at 7pm (Mt Eden Pools – Bellevue Rd Mt Eden Auckland). For all those who live in Auckland it would be great if you would come to training that week and take a couple of quick tests to help speed this process up. Annual General Meeting awards
Congratulations to the members who were recognised at the Annual General Meeting in April for there service to Pauanui SLSC and life guarding. See the Annual General Meeting minutes for details on this and all other bits and pieces including the members of the committee. |

Courses for Lifeguards
Congratulations to those guards who have completed courses and awards over the winter. Don’t forget to have a look on the Surf Lifesaving Bay of Plenty website for any courses and talk to the Club Captain if your are interested in attending any.
Please also check that your certificates are still valid and refreshed. If you have further awards than those on the current patrol roster you will need to provide the Club Captain with proof of this so that these can be recorded properly. If the information is not recorded properly you might miss out on being allowed to complete further courses that require prerequisite courses to be completed. |
Lodge Accommodation
If you would like to use the lodge at any time we have an appointed Lodge Custodian who will be taking care of our Lodge. We hope that all guards will feel welcome to use the lodge when coming to patrol at Pauanui and we expect that it be respected and kept in a clean tidy condition. Even more importantly we want the lodge to be a safe place for our guards to stay so we ask that if you want to use the lodge during your patrol weekend (or any other time provided there is room) that you let the Lodge Custodian know when you will be staying and contact him first if you need keys. |

Patrol Roster
The patrol roster is now in its final draft stages now, thanks to those who have let me know what patrol teams that they wanted to be on.
Please view the latest copy.
Please let the Club Captain know by November 15th 2008 if you wish to swap the patrol team you are on. Remember that after this time it will be up to you to swap with another guard (of similar level) if you cannot do a patrol and alert your Patrol Captain. |
National Jandal Day
National Jandal Day is happening again soon so keep your ear out for whispers and if you have the chance, sign up to be a street collector or collect at your work. Much of the detail is on the website
Wetsuits
Surf Life Saving New Zealand has been offered the opportunity for its members to purchase a range of wetsuits at reduced costs that are printed ‘Surf Lifeguard’ and will be suitable for patrolling in. If you wish to purchase any of there items please talk to the Club Captain but keep in mind that due to high demand, orders received later than November probably won’t be available until after Christmas. A copy of the catalogue for lifeguards can be found on Bay of Plenty Website or by clicking here.
Orders are at the cost of the guard and can be picked up from Bay of Plenty offices in Mt Maunganui when ready. |

Expressions of interest in being the Regional ‘Rookie’ lifeguard on weekday patrols during January this summer are still open. The ‘Rookie’ lifeguard placement is during weekdays 10am – 6pm from the 29th December 2008 to the 25th January 2009. If you are interested in taking up employment as a Regional guard (Paid Life guards who are employed by Surf Life Saving Bay of Plenty to work during weekdays in January) in the future this role is designed to help you get up to speed for the Regional Guard role.
The preferable prerequisites of the role include:
- An intention to become a Regional guard the following year (this is the whole reason for the placement)
- Being a refreshed and competent Lifeguard
- One years volunteer patrolling experience
And any or all of the following further certificates offered by Surf Life Saving:

- First Aid Level 2 Award

If you think you foot the bill and would like to apply for this position (if you haven’t already) please email the Club Captain and tell us why you should be chosen for the position and when you will be available. Please note: it is possible to share the job with others but only one placement as ‘Rookie’ guard is required for patrol each day. The best person/people for the job will be selected. |
